If your kids have ever wanted to grow their own veggie patch or learn more about native wildlife, then an exciting series of free workshops at Hawaiian’s Bassendean has all the answers your green thumb is looking for.

Hawaiian’s Bassendean is hosting free sustainability workshops for five to 12-year-olds throughout September and October, providing timely tips as the weather warms up.

The one-hour workshops are being run by The Forever Project and kick off on Saturday 7 September with Growing a Great Garden at Home, which will offer valuable advice on how to create a resilient and beautiful native garden.

The following Saturday is geared for the fresh food lover – with practical advice on how easy it is to grow your own vegetables as part of the Grow Your Own Great Food at Home workshop. Attendees will be able to make their own small veggie grow bag to take home.

Both of these workshops will be repeated during the school holidays, on October 9 and 12, respectively.

On Saturday 21 September our native furry friends will make a special visit to Hawaiian’s Bassendean and kids will learn how important native animals are to the ecosystem and how to encourage them to visit your garden.

Hawaiian’s Bassendean will then celebrate and wrap up the sustainability workshops with a Street Food Theatre event at 12.30pm on Saturday 12 October. The event will include everything from practical information on growing your own food and improving soil, right through to chef showcases on how to cook fresh, high quality produce to create simple and delicious meals.

All workshops are free, but places are limited. Visit the Hawaiian’s Bassendean Facebook page to register your details - @HawaiiansBassendean.
