Students of Noranda Primary School will take part in a journey of self development, empowerment, and skills development through the Life Education program this week as they welcome the Life Education Van.

The week long program, delivered by the Life Education Van, consists of 14 sessions for students of all ages covering important developmental and health focussed themes such as cyber safety, growing good friends, ‘my body matters’ and a collaborative session alongside a parent or guardian.

Life Education encourages and empowers young people to make safe and healthier choices through interactive and engaging education.

The incursion has been made possible through the support of Hawaiian’s 2018 Giving Box Appeal where Noranda Primary School was awarded a $2,000 grant for raising the highest amount of food in the local area as well as the highest collection in the entire appeal - out of 21 participating schools, raising a total of 888kg (1,600 meals) and 135 gifts for struggling families in WA.

The initiative encouraged local schools, workplaces and shopping centres to donate non-perishable food and gift items to provide assistance to struggling West Australians over the 2018 holiday season. The grant was awarded as part of the state-wide campaign that saw the West Australian community donate more than 31,148 meals and 11,700 gifts.

Noranda Primary School’s Principal Jeffrey Murphy said the $2,000 prize has since contributed towards Harmony Day celebrations and reducing the cost to parents for their children to participate in Life Education’s activities.

“Teachers select from a range of age appropriate health, drug and cyber safety modules, with students visiting the Mobile Learning Centre and engaging in interactive learning sessions featuring props, role play and audio visual material,” Mr Murphy said.

“This program is used as a platform to introduce and explore various health topics, which are then consolidated and discussed further back in the classroom.

“We are excited to be offering students from Kindergarten to Year 6 this proactive opportunity to expand their growth, development and learning which they will use beyond their schooling years.”

Hawaiian’s General Manager, Shopping Centre Suburban Portfolio, Scott Greenwood said Hawaiian are proud to be supporting healthier life decisions through education.

“We’re glad to be supporting the education of young West Australians as they undertake preventative education and learn in an engaging environment,” said Mr Greenwood.

“Hawaiian is thrilled to see the benefit of the Giving Box Appeal investing further into the community – the gift that keeps on giving.”
