On Wednesday 12 June, The Bassendean Festival of Local Business welcomed budding entrepreneurs and the local Bassendean community to the Bassendean Hotel for an inaugural night of bright ideas and start-ups, with The Big Idea: Pitching Event.

Acting as a stomping ground for those looking to start and/or grow a business, ten budding entrepreneurs pitched their fresh business ideas to a panel, including Hawaiian’s General Manager of Suburban Shopping Centres Scott Greenwood, business mentor Kim Veale and AXITO Managing Director Simon Loader.

Hawaiian was a proud supporter of the event, which boasted over $20,000 worth of prizes and support for the winning entrepreneurs to grow and execute their start-ups. This included three months’ worth of retail space at Hawaiian’s Bassendean, sponsored by Hawaiian.

Our congratulations to Cassandra Tomeo, the winner of the inaugural pitching event with her business ‘Runway Regime’ – a dress rental business for curvy women born out of Cassandra’s frustrations with trying to find a ball gown to fit her own frame.

The 28-year-old Bassendean mum launched Runway Regime back in April 2019, as Australia’s first online fashion hire store offering solely sizes 14-22.

Hawaiian’s General Manager of Shopping Centres (Suburban) Scott Greenwood said Hawaiian’s Bassendean was thrilled to offer a three-month lease at the centre to assist Cassandra with her start-up business.

“Hawaiian is committed to supporting local West Australian talent, and we’re thrilled to be able to support budding entrepreneurs in the early stages of their business,” said Mr Greenwood.

“We hope that the local community will come together to support Cassandra as she brings ‘Runway Regime’ to Hawaiian’s Bassendean in the near future.”

The Bassendean Festival of Local Business is an initiative of the Town of Bassendean and supported by a local Business Working Group.

The Festival was designed to celebrate and strengthen Bassendean’s diverse business scene and to incubate new businesses.
