Camboon Primary School is the first school to receive and use its funding from Hawaiian’s new Schools Program, which works to support schools within the local communities in which Hawaiian operates.

The Schools Program by Hawaiian aims to provide support to schools that need it, and develop and maintain long-standing partnerships with local schools that positively impact students, parents and teachers.

Schools have the opportunity to receive experiences from some of Hawaiian’s community partners, including the West Coast Eagles, Perth Wildcats and Barking Gecko Theatre. Schools are also encouraged to apply for monetary grants to put towards a project or program they have been looking to implement but haven’t had the means to do so.

Camboon Primary School chose to utilise their $1,000 grant to work with local artist Hayley Welsh to create a series of artworks that reflect the multicultural environment of the school.

Unveiled as part of the school’s Harmony Day celebrations, the art is a reminder to students and visitors alike that everyone should be acknowledged and accepted - a message that the school felt was important for the students to communicate.

Camboon Primary School Principal Janice Cuculoska said with such a diverse group of students, and a diverse wider community, it is critical that the school and staff foster tolerance, understanding, respect and acceptance of all people, regardless of where they come from.

Hawaiian’s General Manager, Shopping Centres Suburban Portfolio, Scott Greenwood said Hawaiian is looking forward to deepening its relationship with various schools in Western Australia.

“The Schools Program was born out of a desire to deepen our relationship with schools we have worked with in the past, and also begin conversations with new schools as to how we can support students and their families through meaningful activities,” said Mr Greenwood.

“We look forward to sharing in the experiences and learnings of the students from all participating schools.”
