In celebration of NAIDOC Week, Hawaiian commissioned Noongar artist Wendy Hayden to lead a community art project at Parmelia House.

The artwork was a collaborative piece involving the Parmelia House community around the theme Many Communities, One Meeting Place.

Throughout the week dozens of people spent time with Wendy in the lobby of Parmelia House, where they shared personal stories and helped paint the canvas, creating an amazing artwork.

NAIDOC Week is a celebration of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, this year’s theme; Because of Her, We Can.

Wendy Hayden is a Perth based artist, raised in a strong Noongar household.  Her father encouraged her to be proud of her heritage, her mother is one of the Stolen Generation.  Wendy began painting in 2000 and draws inspiration from her mother’s stories.
