If you haven’t eaten at Chomp 68 at Hawaiian’s Bassendean you're missing out.

Renowned chef Sonny Wong has opened his first restaurant in Bassendean, after a successful career at some of Perth’s leading world class hotels and restaurants including the Hyatt Regency and Crown Towers.

Chomp 68 opened in April and is a fresh and modern Chinese restaurant.

Sonny’s extensive experience in the kitchen includes 7½ years at Joes Oriental Diner at the Hyatt, Epicurean restaurant at Crown, Wagamama and Midori Teppanyaki & Bar.

Sonny Wong said his dream has always been to open a restaurant of his own.  "I remember watching my uncle cook when I was a young boy and thought I want to do that one day," he said.

“After many years working and fine tuning my skills and technique for other restaurants, I felt the time was right to create something of my own.

“The past year has been a lot of hard work, walking into my own restaurant everyday feels good.

“I’ve had a lot of regular customers over the years and my new venture brings together two things that make me happy, cooking and people.

“I always feel a sense of achievement when customers enjoy the food I make.

“My signature dish is creamy butter king prawns.  The recipe was inspired by my mum because of her love of seafood, so it has a lot of sentimental value," Sonny said.
